Albert Einstein was born in Ulm in the Kingdom of Wuttemberg on 14 March 1879. His father was Hermann Einstein, a salesman and engineer. In 1880 he moved to Munich. Einstein had early speech difficulties, but he was a top student in elementary school. Einstein built models and mechanical devices for fun and began to show a talent in maths. In 1894 his company failed in search of bussiness.

After that, Einstein moved to Italy, first to Milan and then, a few months later, moved to Pavia. Then Einstein wrote his first scientific work. His wife was Milena Mavic. He died on 18 April 1955 at the age of 76.

Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, on August 29 1958. He started his career in Motown with the band Jackson 5. In the end of the 60s and at the beginning of the next decade he was a member of Jacksons 5, in 1971 he started his first solo career with the record “Off the Wall”. From then on he was one of the most successful artists in the history of the black music and one of the most successful solo artists in the history of music.

His record Thriller in 1982 stayed at the top of Billboard album chart for 37 weeks, he won 7 award Grammies and 7 off his songs climbed to the top-10.
After many successful songs Michael Jackson died on 25 June 2009. The King of Pop was buried on 7/7/2009 at 8:00 a.m.

Once upon a time, in small village, lived a young girl. Her name was Ann and her family was very poor. Ann was jealous of her friends, because they had got many toys to play with. Ann wanted to buy a toy and her mum saved money, and bought her a beautiful doll. Ann loved her doll very much and put it in a glass cupboard to protect it from breaking it or dirt.

One night, while Ann was sleeping, she heard a loud noise and she immediately went to the room where her doll was, to see what had happened. When she got into the room, she saw that the cupboard was broken and her doll wasn’t in it. She started crying. With tears on her face, she came back to her bedroom. Then, she felt a touch on her arm, but when she turned her face, there was nobody there! She went to the room where the cupboard was again, but this time, she saw that it wasn’t broken and the doll was in it.

That night, when Ann felt the touch on her arm, she realized that after that, a piece of her pyjamas was missing. She found the same, missing piece of her pyjamas on the doll’s dress!!!

Our names are Rania, Thanasis, Evi and Alexandros. We are 11 years old. Our country is Greece and our town is Levadia. Greece borders Turkey, Albania, Bulgaria and FYROM.

Greece has many ancient ruins and a lot of museums. All the people of the world know about the Acropolis and Parthenon. There are many statues too. Every year, lots of tourists visit Greece to see the sights and go to the beautiful beaches and islands.

In 2004 the Olympic Games were held in Greece. The capital of Greece is Athens.

The country is mountainous but it has a lot of plains too. A famous river of Greece is Pinios. In Greece there are volcanoes too! The weather is cold, rainy and sometimes snowy in winter. The temperature rarely drops below zero, in some mountainous villages. In summer the weather is hot and sunny. At noon gets really hot!

The people of Greece are friendly, traditional and warm. We have a rich culture and tradition.

We think it is fantastic to live in Greece, because it is a lovely country.

Hello from ST2!

We are the 6th grade of the 5th Primary School of Levadia. We would like to continue the school blog as the last year 6th grade did. We will always put new subjects about our school events, fresh news about our excursions and our art exhibitions, bazaars or musical events.

“Playing for Change is a multimedia movement created to inspire, connect, and bring peace to the world through music. The idea for this project arose from a common belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people” (*).  The song “One Love” by Bob Marley is sung by singers and musicians who have never met.

This year it was full of walks, games, singing, dancing, delicious food, but most importantly, nice and warm memories for the good time we spent all year long and the bad moments we should forget. A farewell to beloved colleagues  and a greeting to summer holidays.

Also, in Marrakesh, which is a small city in Morocco and particularly, in the heart of the city, the Jamma El Fna square, you can meet many entertainers. You can meet snake- charmers who make their cobras dance to the magic tunes of their flute. You can meet story-tellers who narrate fairy tales. You can, also, meet water – venders, who sell water to thirsty crowds.
Other famous traditional markets worldwide are Portobello in London and the Flee Market in Berkeley, U.S.A.

In my country a traditional market is “Monastiraki” in Athens.  Another traditional market is the “Bazaar” in my town every October. People of all the area come here and buy things. They go to the fun-fair and eat sausages!!! There are people selling vegetables, fruit, furniture, carpets and everything consumers may want. People call out their products and the consumers go there to see what they sell; if they like something they buy it, if not they don’t buy it and the sellers are unhappy.

During discussion in class

The week before Easter was the International Week against Illiteracy. Action Aid invited all people and teachers to put pressure on the governments so that every year there will be  fewer people that cannot read or write in their own language.

My students and I accepted the invitation and participated. During the  “Open Book” program, I read the personal experience of princess Rania of Jordan to most of my classes. My pupils were very interested in the activity and a number of questions followed. We had an amazing discussion on how they would feel if their parents refused to send them to school, if they had to work at their age or stopped their education suddenly. Their opinions and feelings were really unexpected. They would definitely be opposed to their parents’ decision no matter the cost. You take comfort to hear such things from so young boys and girls! You get the feeling that they have the power to do a lot more for a good future.

Finally, we signed a petition and donated words to illiterate people, especially children to learn in their language. I, also, thank  my colleagues and the school principal,  who signed the petition with great pleasure.
